Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad bin Sultan Al Muraikhi held a courtesy meeting with Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba in Oman's capital Muscat on Sunday.

A sideline meeting took place today between them who are in Muscat, Oman to participate in the 8th Indian Ocean Conference.

During the meeting, they discussed relations between Nepal and Qatar, bilateral interests and mutual benefits, as well as scholarships for Nepali students in Qatar and skilled technical manpower.

On that occasion, Foreign Minister Deuba asked Minister Muraikhi to help for the release of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali youth who is under the control of the Hamas group.

Foreign Minister Deuba appreciated the role played by the Qatari government in mediating between the Israeli government and Hamas for the ceasefire and peace talks, and asked for a special initiative for the release of Bipin, who is under the control of Hamas.

Some time ago, Minister Deuba made the same request in a telephone conversation with Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi. Khulaifi is the main negotiator and mediator of the peace talks between the government of Israel and Hamas.

The government of Nepal has been continuing diplomatic efforts for the release of Bipin since last year. Foreign Minister Deuba has been asking for the release of Bipin through the United Nations, international and regional forums and meetings.

In October 2023, Bipin was kidnapped by the Hamas group in an attack on Israeli land.
