Journalist Federation's warning to protest against the withdrawal of the Social Media Bill

The Federation of Nepalese Journalists has warned that the government will launch a protest if the Social Media Bill, which was recently registered in the National Assembly, is not withdrawn.

After the election of the new committee, the first working meeting held in Dhulikhel of Kavre warned that the bill would be launched if the bill is not withdrawn immediately.

Considering that it is not appropriate to proceed with the bill that violates the fundamental rights of citizens without even having a general discussion with the stakeholders, the federation has requested the government, parliament and political parties to immediately withdraw the said bill and rewrite it after necessary consultation with the stakeholders to regulate only the social media platforms .

"Otherwise, the federation will be forced to fight against the bill that restricts the freedom of press and expression and the effectiveness of New Media," the federation said. The

meeting has also released the Dhulikhel manifesto. Similarly, in the media council bill, it has objected that the suggestions given by the federation from the past have not been included. Similarly, there have been complaints in the media that the Working Journalist Act has not been implemented and that the working journalists working there are not getting even the minimum facilities that they should get as per the rules, so the attention of the government has been drawn to implement the law immediately in such institutions .

This is the manifesto issued by the Federation :
