Passengers have been facing harassment and suffering for years because the work of upgrading the Narayangadh to Butwal road section of the East-West Highway was not completed on time. In this background, the government has advanced the plan of 346 km road expansion from Butwal to Chisapani bridge on the border of Kailali and Bardia.

The government has a plan to expand this road section into eight parts. Meanwhile, work has progressed on the quality standards of the Asian highway from Butwal to Chandrauta.

is the first section of the road segment divided into 8 sections, 120 km from Narayangarh to Butwal. The second section is the 40 km road from Butwal to Gorusinge section. Its construction work has already started. The third section is the 19 km section from Gorusinge to Chandrauta. Kushalta Neupane, Chief Engineer of the Road Construction Project Office, said that after signing the contract with the World Bank for the second phase of the contract and the signature bridge at Tinau in Butwal, the tender process has gone on. Out of 59 km from Butwal to Chandrauta, 24 km is forest area. There will be four-lane roads in the forest area and six-lane roads in other market areas.

is the fourth section, 36 km from Chandrauta to Bhaluwang. This road is likely to be built with the investment of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), according to the Road Division Office. Because MCC has shown the desire to build only 14 km road section from Dhankhola to Bhaluwang.

is the fifth section, 25 km from Valuwang Lamhi. For this, the government is looking for donors. For the construction of the road from Shivkhola in Lamhi to Tulsipur in the north, the government of Nepal has secured the resources of 3.99 billion 49 lakhs and started the contract process. Earlier, after four years of stalling the road which was going to be built with the investment of Indian Exim Bank, the government is going to break the contract and build it with its own investment .

is the sixth road section, 118 km from Lamhi in Dang to Kohalpur. Most of the forests fall within this section. In this area, the road will be expanded to Charlane, but there is a forest area on both sides of the road and a park is located in it, so a bypass bridge is necessary for the movement of wild animals. Niraj Shakya, Senior Division Engineer of Road Division Office, Nepalgunj, said that since the cost of constructing a long distance and bypass is high, the Development Assistance Implementation (Foreign) Division of the Road Department under the Federal Government is taking initiatives for financial resources and so far there is no information on how and from which donor to build it.

The seventh section is the 21 km road section from Kohalpur to Nepalgunj and the eighth section is the 89 km road section from Nepalgunj to Chisapani. The last three road sections are within the area of Nepalgunj Road Division Office. "It has been heard that the process for loan assistance has been progressed to build from Kohalpur via Nepalgunj to Chisapani bridge with the help of Asian Development Bank," he said, "but the foreign division of the road department will know what is happening and what stage it has reached."

Senior Division Engineer of Road Division Office Nepalganj Niraj Shakya said that he heard that the process for loan assistance has been progressed to build the bridge from Lamhi to Kohalpur with the help of World Bank and Asian Development Bank from Kohalpur to Chisapani bridge via Nepalgunj.
