President of Nepal Samajwadi Party (New Power) Baburam Bhattarai has said that February 1 should be celebrated as 'People's Revolution Day'. Bhattarai, who is also a former prime minister, said that February 1 should be celebrated as People's Revolution Day on behalf of the state, all parties and the people, while wishing him on the occasion of the day when the Maoists started armed struggle against the then government.
On Thursday, Bhattarai wrote on social media, 'Let's stop the war of words. Let's celebrate the 1st of February as 'Jankranti Diwas' every year on behalf of the state and all parties and people!
Bhattarai writes that 1st of February was the day when the epoch-making public uprising started, 'February 1st. The day when Nepal's epoch-making public revolution (people's war) began! The day the real foundations of the Federal Democratic Republic began to be dug. Heartfelt respect to all the great martyrs, missing persons, wounded/disabled warriors who sacrificed their precious lives in that great yajna!'
He has also said that the links of all movements and revolutions including 1997 uprising, 2007 people's revolution, Jhapa people's uprising, 2046 people's movement, 2052-62 armed people's war, 2062/63 joint people's movement, Madhesh rebellion, Tharu rebellion, tribal movement, etc. should be connected.
