3 million liters of water on the road in four hours

During the expansion of Nepal Electricity Authority's underground line, Melamchi water supply pipe was damaged on Wednesday, and 3 million liters of water flowed on the road in four hours.

According to Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Limited (KUKL), the roads, government offices and private houses of Babarmahal were flooded after water continuously came out of the pipes for about four hours.

Now 170 million liters of water is brought to Kathmandu Valley from Melamchi. According to Ashok Paudel, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KUKL, the water brought from Melamchi was sent from the processing center at Sundijal to the wholesale distribution system and all the water in the 75 km pipeline flowed in Babarmahal area. Paudel informed that about 24 to 30 million liters of water was wasted.

According to him, the water has been turned off now, and preparations are being made to distribute the water by repairing the damaged pipe by tomorrow evening.  The water came out after the machine found the pipe while digging the ground for laying the wire while the authority was working through the contract. While grilling, the machine got stuck in a 20-inch pipe .

The road in front of the District Court Kathmandu and the government offices inside the forest premises were also inundated by the water .
