UML Vice President Ram Bahadur Thapa has said that people's war is violence. Thapa, who arrived in Achham to address a meeting of CPN-UML Achham leaders, said at a press conference organized by the Nepal Journalist Federation Achham on Thursday that UML President KP Sharma Oli had no objection to calling the struggle a violent conflict.

Thapa, who started his political journey from CPN Chaum in 2037, was a Maoist for a long time. He joined CPN-Maoist in 2050. During the underground period, he went through various Maoist organizations and became the General Secretary of the Unified CPN Maoist in 2064. He has also been the Minister of Defense and Minister of Home Affairs and became a member of the Secretariat of the CPN. Later, after the Supreme Court declared the merger of UML and Maoist as illegal, Thapa remained in UML. Lately, he has been criticizing the Maoists.
He said that CPN was formed from the line of Maoist center and UML, he said that he stayed in UML because the current UML is a continuation of the new UML and CPN. He said that he did not come to UML from Maoist because of instability. He alleged that Pushpa Kamal Dahal left the CPN and joined the Maoist Center and formed a faction, Madhav Kumar Nepal split the CPN and formed the CPN S, Vamdev Gautam split the CPN and formed a unity campaign, he alleged. He claimed that the alliance of Congress and UML will last until 2084.
