Meeting of the British Crown Prince with President Paudel

The Duke of Edinburgh Edward Duke of United Kingdom, who is on a visit to Nepal, has a courtesy meeting with President Ramchandra Paudel. The office of the President said that they discussed various issues of bilateral mutual interest during the courtesy meeting held on Tuesday at Rashtrapati Bhavan Sheetal Niwas.

In the meeting, President Paudel said that since climate change is a major concern of the world today, everyone should work together to solve this problem. "Climate change has become a major concern of the world today, Nepal, which is directly affected by it, has been raising the issue of mountain protection prominently in various international forums", said President Paudel's press advisor Kiran Pokharel.   

In this context, President Paudel informed that Nepal is going to start the Everest dialogue. He said that the first edition of the forum will be held from May 16 to 18 in Kathmandu on the topic of 'climate change, mountains and the future of humans'.

President Paudel said that the visits to Nepal by members of the British royal family at different times have contributed to strengthening the harmonious relationship between the two countries. He also recalled the state visits of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip to Nepal in 1960 and 1986. 

'There has been a close relationship between Nepal and the UK for centuries, I express my gratitude to the UK, which is also an important development partner, for supporting the all-round development of Nepal', President Paudel said. He expressed his wish for King Charles's personal happiness and good health on behalf of the Nepalese citizens. 

Britain's Prince Edward with his wife Sophie came to Kathmandu today to visit Nepal. British Ambassador to Nepal Rob Fenn, wife of the British Crown Prince Sophie, participated in the meeting. On that occasion, Crown Prince Edward expressed his belief that during the visit, he would be informed about the impact of climate change on Nepal and the efforts made by Nepal to mitigate it. He expressed his hope to understand the effects of climate change on the mountains during the visit. 

The British royal family members are trying to come to Nepal and he is very happy when he comes to Nepal, the Adhirajkumar expressed the opinion that the issue of youth and women empowerment will be more relevant in the future exchange of cooperation between Nepal and Britain. He expressed his gratitude for Nepal's approval for recruitment in the British Army and mentioned that the relationship of British Gurkha soldiers is a milestone in the harmonious relationship between Nepal and Britain. 

'British-Gorkha' an important link in bilateral relations

On the same occasion, Major-General Gerald Strickland, the head of the 'Gorkha-Brigade' of the British Army, submitted the 2024 annual report of the 'Brigade of Gorkha' to President Paudel. 

President Paudel expressed his gratitude to the British government for presenting the report and said that 'British-Gorkha' is an important link in bilateral relations. "British-Gorkha is an important link of our bilateral relations, it has also contributed significantly to strengthening people-to-people relations", said President Paudel. 

He expressed his belief that the 'bilateral mechanism' formed to address some legitimate grievances of the ex-British Gurkhas is being discussed positively.
