The 'No Cable Car Movement' has been prolonged since the local administration is not ready to stop the construction of Pathibhara cable car and release the three arrested people. The traffic shutdown that started from Taplejung on January 15 has spread to nine districts in the east. Clashes also took place between police and protestors on Sunday at Damak in Jhapa and Itahari in Sunsari.
According to SP Deepak Pokharel, Koshi Province Police Spokesperson, 14 protestors, 8 from Jhapa and 6 from Sunsari, were detained by the police on Sunday. He claimed that after the protesters broke the windows of the police vehicle in Damak, they fired one round in the air. The agitating group has not allowed even two-wheeler (motorcycle) and three-wheeler (tempo) to run in Taplejung, Panchthar and other districts.
The effect of the traffic stop has also been felt in Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Dhankuta, Tehrathum and Sankhuwasabha. But in Jhapa, the effect of the bandh is less. The ride is broken.
Farmers have not been able to deliver vegetables, fruits and other produce to the market due to transport shutdown. 'My son is getting married in Jhapa on January 28, there is no way to go shopping,' said Januka Sitaula, a teacher at Medibung Basic School in Fungling, 'I am wondering if I can get into an ambulance that is going from the hospital.' She said that she reached Jhapa in three days from Taplejung under police escort for marriage.
President of the Trade and Industry Association Naran Thapa said that the hotels of the headquarters are deserted due to the lack of traffic and businessmen have to keep their shops open. A discussion was held at the district administration office from 1 pm to 6 pm on Sunday about opening the
bandh and negotiating.

Bhakta Khebang, central vice president of the protesting National People's Liberation Party and coordinator of the protest committee, said that the federal government would set up a negotiation committee and release the three people in police custody unconditionally, as well as stop the construction until the negotiation period.
'Our main demand is cancellation of the cable car,' he said, 'This demand cannot be fulfilled by the local administration. Therefore, we discuss with the negotiation committee formed by the federal government. The government has formed a negotiation committee and we will immediately suspend the bandh/strike program until the cable car works are stopped and the arrested friends are released. In the discussion, from Fungling Mayor Amir Maden, all village chairpersons and heads of political parties requested the local administration to release the arrested activists. "In some matters, the state should exercise restraint and take a step back for the convenience of the people," said Rajan Limbu, chairman of Paktanglung Rural Municipality, to the chief district officer, "let's leave those under police control, let's not drive dozers at the construction site until the negotiations are over." President Yukhamvir Hangam also requested the administration to release those arrested. It is becoming a problem for people to reach the hospital, the danger of further conflict has increased, the community has started to divide. So let's leave the arrested and return the bandh," he said. Chief District Officer Netra Prasad Sharma said that the three arrested people cannot be released until the 22nd because the court has extended the deadline. "We agree on making the case flexible," he said He said no. After that, the participants, including the people's representative, who were angry, expressed their anger towards Prazia Sharma saying, "If you don't follow our advice, why did you call us?" Congress leader and President of Pathibhara Campus Board of Directors Sila Ijam warned that the administration should take responsibility for the cable car dispute that has reached the community and if there is further damage caused to the society.
There has been a dispute between building a cable car in Pathibhara and not allowing it to be built since 2075. A clash broke out between security personnel and the police in Kaflepati on January 12, when the excavator started digging up the ground at the lower station of the cable car. Three protestors and 21 security personnel were injured in the clash.
During the clashes, some young people of the protesting side were injured due to the firing by the police. Chief District Officer Sharma informed that among the three injured, they have been taken to Kathmandu for treatment and two of them have been discharged from the hospital, but they are said to 'stay here' for a few days and the health condition of the other one is improving. He said that the health of the injured security personnel is normal.
After the clash, the agitating party has stopped the traffic in Taplejung, Taplejung to Panchthar, Mechi highway through Ilam to Charali in Jhapa and Tamor corridor from Taplejung to Mulghat in Dhankuta through Panchthar. The MPs of the Koshi state assembly also raised questions about the clashes that took place in the sand dunes of Kaflepati.
They requested the government to hold talks with the protesting groups immediately. Khagensin Hangam, Minister of Industry, Agriculture and Cooperatives of Koshi province, who was elected from Taplejung 1 (2), requested the peace and political negotiation committee formed by the provincial government to hold talks. A committee led by Economic Affairs and Planning Minister Ram Rana decided to call for talks.
But the committee had not sent correspondence to the agitating party till Sunday evening. The agitating party has been responding that there is no point in negotiating with the state government.
Chief District Officer Sharma said that he had sent the contact number of the leader of the protesting organization to the committee.
Targeting the Pathibhara temple, a 2.7 km long cable car is being built from Fungling Municipality-10 Kaflepati to the end of the temple.
The agitating party has been demanding that Pathibhara Mukkumlung should be kept in its original condition as it is the heartland of the Limbu community. The Pathibhara Mukkumlung Cable Car Pvt. Ltd. led by the President of Federation of Commerce and Industry Chandra Dhakal started the construction of the cable car after obtaining a construction permit from the Fungling Municipality. They said that they can build a cable car in 15 months at a cost of 3 billion.
