5 Nepalis died in a car accident while returning from participating in the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. According to the Nepal Police, the 5 deceased are from Mahottari district.
5 Nepali nationals have died when the Indian Scorpio car with number BR 32 PA 4661 carrying 9 Nepalis from Kumbh Mela went out of control while trying to save a bicycle in Bihar's Muzaffarpur. According to DIG Lalmani Acharya, head of Nepali Police Madhesh, 4 people died on the spot after the vehicle accident. He informed that one died during the treatment. A traffic policeman was also injured in the accident. Manohar Thakur, 30, who was injured in the accident, is a traffic policeman. Many members of his family have been injured in the accident.
'After our police also met with an accident, we got information about the incident from Vihar police,' DIG Acharya said, 'We are understanding about the incident. There was a huge damage. DSP Varun Bahadur Singh of Dhanusha Police said that an Indian vehicle carrying Nepalese pilgrims had an accident in the city of Muzaffarpur in Bihar late on Sunday evening. 45-year-old Mantarni Devi, 30-year-old Archana Thakur, 60-year-old Balakrishna Jha, 55-year-old Indu Devi and the driver were involved in the accident. The driver's name has not been released. However, Indian media reported that the driver is from Siraha.
Manohar Thakur, Kamini Jha, Srishti Thakur, Jagtaran Devi are seriously injured in the accident. The injured are being treated at Shri Krishna Medical College (SKMCH) in Bihar's Muzaffarpur.
