The Ministry of Home Affairs has written to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration to resolve the dispute in the Pathibhara area. As the topic of cable car regulation falls under the federal affairs, the letter was written on Friday to coordinate and facilitate the issues and concerns of the local people.
The letter was written by Rishikesh Khatiwada, branch officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs. "As the subject of cable car regulation falls under that ministry, it is requested according to the instructions to take immediate steps forward to solve the problem by coordinating and facilitating with all the stakeholders, paying attention to the questions and concerns raised locally in this regard," the letter said.
Last January 15, Home Minister Ramesh Ukhar called the MPs of Taplejung, Ilam and Sankhuwasa Sabha to the ministry and promised to form a negotiation committee and hold talks.
Earlier on January 12, there was a clash between the 'No Cable Car Group' and the police. Five people, including two from the protesting group, and 21 from the police were injured in the shooting. Three people have been arrested.
Protesting groups have stopped movement on the Mechi Highway and Tamor Corridor since January 15, demanding the release of the arrested, stoppage of cable car construction, withdrawal of armed police from the construction site, etc. This has affected the life of Panchthar, Ila, Dhankuta including Taplejung. There are no long and short distance transportation in this area.
