Ravi Lamichhane, chairman of Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RASWPA), has submitted a petition to Speaker Devraj Ghimire to release the suspension of his position as an MP. Lamichhane, who went to meet Speaker Ghimire along with 15 members of the RSVP on Friday, said that the suspension of his position as an MP was not in accordance with the law.
According to Speaker Ghimire's private secretariat, Lamichhane requested that his suspension be lifted during the House of Representatives meeting on Friday. Lamichhane also says that he will not be suspended as a member of parliament as he is not in pre-trial detention. Lamichhane told Speaker Ghimire, 'The petition made to me according to Section 27 of the Prevention of Asset Laundering Act, 2064 is not in accordance with the law, I request that the suspension be lifted from today's meeting.' In the
reply, Speaker Ghimire said that he decided to suspend the position of MP according to the law, Parliament rules and practice. Quoting Speaker Ghimire's statement, the Secretariat said, 'I have decided to suspend according to the existing law, Parliament rules and practice. Not on the basis of someone's pressure, influence, bias and favoritism . Someone else was in this position yesterday . Today I am . Tomorrow it could be someone else . But it is my responsibility to abide by the law while in office. You have applied. This is a matter of discussion and consultation. There is no time today. We are at the last moment of the start of the parliament.'
Speaker Ghimire told Lamichhane, 'Isn't there a case against you?' asked that . Then he requested the lawyer to clarify . After the indictment was registered for the crime of money laundering, the parliament secretariat published a notice on the suspension of Lamichhane's position as a member of parliament on January 8.
Lamichhane was released on a bail of Rs 65 lakh from District Court Kaski in the case of cooperative fraud, organized crime and money laundering. Similarly, he was released on bail of 60 lakh rupees in the case of organized fraud from the District Court Kathmandu and 1 crore rupees in the case of cooperative fraud, organized crime and money laundering from the District Court Rupandehi.
