The Federation of Nepalese Journalists disagrees with some of the provisions of the bill on the operation, use and regulation of social media registered by the government in the Federal Parliament.
The Mahasangh said, 'The Mahasangh seriously disagrees with the fact that the government has advanced the bill including some provisions that would harm the freedom of the press and expression without even general consultation and discussion with the stakeholders, including the leading civic organizations Mahasangh.'
Federation has issued a statement today and through deep dialogue with the concerned parties, it has requested the Government of Nepal and the Federal Parliament to move forward with the bill only by correcting the provisions that stifle freedom of press and expression in a way that harmonizes with universal human rights, values of press and freedom of expression, our constitutional provisions and prevailing practice. .
The Federation has drawn the attention of the concerned parties saying that any law that curtails and controls freedom of press and expression is not acceptable.
