A bill has been registered in the Parliament with the proposal of imprisonment and punishment for spreading misleading information about someone by creating a fake ID, page or group on social media. Such a provision has been made in the bill which has been submitted for registration in the National Assembly to regulate the operation, use and regulation of social networks.

In section 27 of the bill, there is a provision not to create or use anonymous or pseudonymous identities on social media. "No one should create an identity on social media anonymous or disguised (fake ID, page, group) or in the name of others, produce and post or share content through such anonymous or disguised identity, share other's content, comment or call," It is written in sub-section 2, 'Whoever commits an offense under sub-section (1) shall be punished with imprisonment up to three months or a fine of up to fifty thousand rupees or both.'

Provision has also been made that action will be taken against anyone who commits an offense under the prevailing law by using social media or encourages someone to commit such an offence. "If someone commits an offense according to the prevailing law by using social media or if he encourages to commit such an offense, he will be punished with imprisonment for up to one year in addition to the punishment according to the prevailing law," it is proposed in the bill. The punishment for such an offense will be double the punishment.'

If any person who holds a public position or receives benefits from the state fund commits an offense according to this Act, such offender will be punished up to fifty percent more than the punishment according to this Act.

It has been arranged that an additional prison sentence of up to one year will be imposed in case of committing a crime by using children.
