The fee paid by Nepali citizens for climbing Mount Everest has increased from 75 thousand to 1.5 lakh
Now the cost of climbing Everest for foreign citizens will increase. The government has increased the fee for foreign climbers by more than five and a half lakhs per person.
Earlier, foreign nationals used to pay a fee of 15 lakh 17 thousand 780 rupees according to the exchange rate issued by Nepal Rastra Bank on Friday. Now such a fee has reached 20 lakh 69 thousand 676 rupees.
In the spring season of 2024, 419 people took permission to climb Mt. Out of which the number of foreign citizens was 343. Narayan Prasad Regmi, director general of the department, said that the cabinet meeting on January 24 revised the regulations on mountain climbing for the sixth time and increased the salami customs. This rule will come into effect from 16 August 2082 .
The government has increased the fee collected from foreign climbers due to the increase in complaints about overcrowding and increased garbage due to the cheapness of the salami fee collected by the government for climbing Mt. Although the insurance and other points amended by the regulation will be implemented immediately, it is written that in the current spring mountain climbing season, the rules of the salami fee amount will not be applied new but the old one will be applied . The
regulation has also increased the daily allowance, insurance and fees given by climbing companies to mountain guides and workers going to high altitudes . Now the number and weight of the goods to be taken above the base camp will also have to be disclosed . Similarly, if mountain climbing is done for the purpose of setting a new record, details have also been added to the regulations.
Similarly, in order to minimize the past incidents of mountaineers returning from the middle without climbing the mountain, submitting false information and claiming to have climbed the mountain, the regulations now require the contact officer of the mountaineer team, the leader of the mountaineer team, and the relevant company/agency to submit a certified document of the mountaineer to the Ministry of Tourism. A provision has been made to submit a photograph with facial features, a self-declaration of having climbed the mountains.
According to the new rule, the members of the mountain climbing team must use biodegradable poop bags for the management of feces and urine above the base camp. It is now mandatory to have insurance worth Rs 20 lakh for each of the mountaineers, mountain guides and workers going to the heights and Rs 15 lakh per person for base camp workers . Previously, there was a rule that the insurance for those working at height should be Rs. 15 lakhs and for those working in base camps, the insurance should be Rs. 8 lakhs.
According to the new rules, mountain climbers will be able to take their family members to the base camp with prior approval. But the department will allow the family members to stay at the base camp for a maximum of two nights. Now every two climbers must take two guides for every 8,000 meter high mountain climbing.
Nepal has opened 461 mountains for climbing, including Everest. In the spring of 2024, the Department of Tourism had collected Rs 674.7 million as a reward for mountain climbing In this, 59 crore 23 lakh rupees were collected only from Everest.
