Supreme Cooperative Fraud Case: Arrest debate continues, order may come today

Even today, the Supreme Cooperative fraud case is still being debated in Ruppandehi District Court. Ravi Lamichhane, chairman of RSVP and former managing director of Gorkha Media Network, who has been accused of co-operative fraud and organized crime, appeared in court for the fourth day today to defend the case.

Ravi appeared in the district court last Wednesday. After the case was heard in the bench of District Court Judge Pralhad Kumar Yogi, he gave a statement on the same day and has been living in the custody of his family and lawyer.

Lawyers from the High and District Public Prosecutor's Offices on Thursday argued in Judge Yogi's courtroom, and on Friday, the prosecution's lawyer and the defendant's lawyer argued. After the debate was not completed on Friday, the case was kept on adjournment for Sunday. Since Wednesday, Lamichhane has been staying at the hotel and regularly appearing in the court and defending the case.

On Sunday, the defendant's lawyer Raman Shrestha, Rajendra Sedai and the rest of the lawyers will argue on behalf of Zaherwala and the government lawyers. After the debate, Judge Yogi can give an order to send him to prison for the preliminary investigation, to take bail or to release him on a normal date, said Shrestadar Yagyamurthy Gyawali of the court.

'There is a possibility to order today after discussion,' he said. Additional cases have been registered against 22 people, including Lamichhane, with more than 55 crore bigos. Lamichhane, Chabilal Joshi and Lakshmi Prasad Paudel have been separately demanded 10 crore 99 lakhs and Ravi's personal 2 crore bigo.
