As a project of national pride, the work of breaking through the main tunnel ('break through') of the under construction Siddhababa tunnel is taking place today. Under the Siddharth highway, the tunneling work of one kilometer and 126 meters from the upper Siddhababa temple on the Butwal-Tansen road section has been completed.

In the presence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, there is a program to 'break through' the main tunnel today. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Physical Infrastructure Minister Devendra Dahal and others are expected to attend the main tunnel 'break through' event.  Krishnaraj Adhikari, head of

project, informed that all the preparations for the final 'break through' program by the Prime Minister have been completed today. From Siddhartha Highway lower Siddhababa Mandir to Dobhan in Palpa there is an area prone to landslides. A tunnel has been constructed to make this section of the highway safe as landslides occur even in the dry season.

After allocating the budget for this tunnel in the year 2077, the road department invited bids internationally on May 9, 2078. The tunnel construction contract was awarded. Three bypasses have been made in order to get out of the tunnel if there is any problem. The break-through of the third and first bypass took place in August and October, but the break-through of the second bypass took place on January 7. The length of the first bypass here is 151 meters,  The length of the second one is 161 meters and the third one is 130 meters. The first bypass is towards Upper Siddhababa Temple and the third bypass is towards Dobhan Dam side. The work started by China State Construction Engineering Corporation at a cost of Rs.

Even though the construction contract was signed in February 2078, the company started digging the tunnel at the end of 2079. According to project chief Krishnaraj Adhikari, all three bypass tunnels of the tunnel have been broken through. are

After the construction of this tunnel, which is being promoted by the government as a project of national pride, it will be easy to travel from Butwal to the hilly districts of Lumbini and Gandaki provinces including Palpa, Gulmi, Syangja, Baglung, Parbat.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) surveyed this area in 2075 and prepared a detailed project report (DPR) of the tunnel. The company informed the government that the 2,700 meter stretch of the Bertung-Chidiakhola section of the Siddharth Highway from Siddhababa to Dobhan Chowki is dangerous. According to the same suggestion, the decision to construct the tunnel was made.

This tunnel has been started to be dug as per the proposal of a tunnel in an area where it is not possible to work on rock set i.e. slope protection on a hill with huge rocks. On November 2, 2076, a source of 10 billion 15 million rupees was secured for the tunnel. At present, 150 Chinese and Nepali skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers are working here daily. The work of secondary support is going on inside the cracked tunnel.
