The Supreme Court dismissed the writ petition filed demanding to stop the implementation of the National Identity Card.
The bench of Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, Justices Abdul Aziz Muslim and Nripadhwaj Niraula decided to dismiss the writ today. With the court dismissing the writ, the way has been opened for the government to proceed with the work. A writ was registered against the government after the government decided to make social security allowance, mobile SIM card and national identity card compulsory for all public services.
Earlier, the cabinet meeting on May 24, 2081 had decided to make the national identity card mandatory for renewing the social security allowance in the first phase from July 1 in 28 districts.
Supreme Court spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel informed that the written order of the verdict is yet to come.
