The Tharu community will celebrate the Maghi festival on 29th of January and 1st of January in Tundikhel, Kathmandu. Tharu National Maghi Mahotsav, coordinator of the original organizing committee and newly elected president of Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha, Premilal Choudhary informed that Tharu National Maghi Mahotsav is going to be celebrated for two days in Tundikhel at a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday.
He said, 'We have been celebrating the Maghi festival in Kathmandu since 2059. As it is the new year of the Tharu community, we have decided to celebrate a two-day festival for Tharu language, culture and public awareness. On the first day, we have organized a Zita Marna and blood donation program, while on the second day we will organize the Maghi Festival. According to him, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will inaugurate the Maghi Festival. This year, Maghi festival is going to be celebrated with the slogan 'Our campaign to protect, enhance and promote Tharu culture, call for equal and inclusive access to all'.
According to him, various sub-committees have been formed under the main organizing committee to make Maghi successful. In 2081, Maghi Mahotsav will be jointly organized by more than 20 Tharu Sangh organizations. He said that this year there will be more than 100 stalls including Tharu food/dishes, exhibition and sale, Tharu skill handicrafts, book exhibition etc.
