The Tharu community will celebrate the Maghi festival on 29th of January and 1st of January in Tundikhel, Kathmandu. Tharu National Maghi Mahotsav, coordinator of the original organizing committee and newly elected president of Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha, Premilal Choudhary informed that Tharu National Maghi Mahotsav is going to be celebrated for two days in Tundikhel at a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday.

He said, 'We have been celebrating the Maghi festival in Kathmandu since 2059. As it is the new year of the Tharu community, we have decided to celebrate a two-day festival for Tharu language, culture and public awareness. On the first day, we have organized a Zita Marna and blood donation program, while on the second day we will organize the Maghi Festival. According to him, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will inaugurate the Maghi Festival. This year, Maghi festival is going to be celebrated with the slogan 'Our campaign to protect, enhance and promote Tharu culture, call for equal and inclusive access to all'. 

According to him, various sub-committees have been formed under the main organizing committee to make Maghi successful.  In 2081, Maghi Mahotsav will be jointly organized by more than 20 Tharu Sangh organizations. He said that this year there will be more than 100 stalls including Tharu food/dishes, exhibition and sale, Tharu skill handicrafts, book exhibition etc.

With the purpose of spreading propaganda, the motorcycle rally will start from Thinkune at 7 am on Saturday 27th of January and end at Bhrikutimandap, while on January 1st at 10 am Tharu culture, Vesh Bhusha, Baja Gaza, Sangh Sanstha will gather at New Road, Basantpur with a tableau rally. He went around Ratna Park, Shaheed Gate, Sundhara Parikrama with the performance and moved to Tundikhel for the main ceremony There is a saying.

According to him, a blood donation program and a jita killing program will be held in Tundikhel on January 29. Pushpa Choudhary will coordinate the blood donation program while Bardiali Tharu Vikas Manch will coordinate the Jita killing program.

In the same festival, there will be more than two dozen beautiful dances and songs including Tharu cultural dances and songs (Maghauta, Sakhia, Hurdgamba, Jhumra, Chokra, Dinnachuwa, Ragni, Badonach, Hori, Jharra, Lathwa, Mugranhawa dances) by Nanduraj Chaudhary, coordinator of cultural sub-committee. Special food eaten by the Tharu caste during the Maghi festival Dishes (Dhikri, Andik Bhaat, Vichari, Sesame Ladoo, Laimuri, Bhuja, Bundi Zandko Jhol, Daru, Banana Taruva, Sakharkhand, Kharia, Pigeon and Bangur meat, Pigeon meat, Ghoghi, Gangta, Sidhra, Masular) will be available -break balu sinki, bayar chutney, varia, rice guri, kathya roti, Andik Roti, Telpour Roti etc. will be present in the festival.
