After the arguments of the defendants, including the President of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RASWPA) and the former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane, who were accused in the embezzlement case of Suryadarshan Cooperative of Pokhara, the lawyers of the aggrieved party of the co-operative have given a counter-argument on Wednesday.
Rajan Khanal, Srestedar of the Kaski District Court, informed that today the public prosecutor will make a counterargument. In the courtroom of Judge Nitij Rai, the custodial arguments of the seven defendants in the case have been going on since the 16th of January.
The court said that after the arguments of the legal professionals on behalf of the defendants, the counter-arguments started. Former DIG Chabilal Joshi, Leela Pacchain, Krishna Bahadur Gurung, Ram Bahadur Khanal and others who were involved in the money embezzlement case of the cooperative along with Lamichhane are being debated behind bars.
After the detention debate, there will be an order to keep the defendants in custody for preliminary investigation or release them and continue the investigation. On January 7, the district attorney's office filed a case against 44 people, including Lamichhane, on charges of misappropriation of cooperative funds.
Lamichhane has also been charged with cooperative fraud and organized crime and money laundering. The public prosecutor's office has so far prosecuted a case against 63 people in the District Court Kaski in the case of money fraud of Suryadarshan Cooperative.
According to the District Public Prosecutor's Office, a case has been filed against 19 people including Lamichhane in organized crime. Along with Lamichhane, there is also a money laundering case against Khanal, Joshi and Pachhai.
