The process of increasing the number of prisoners in the central jail which has been put into operation in Nuwakot is continuing. Branch Officer Indra Bahadur Khatiwada informed that with the completion of the construction of the physical structure under the second phase, seven hundred and fifty-eight prisoners are now kept in the prison, which was put into operation on August 15.
According to him, one hundred and 48 inmates of the District Jail Nuwakot were transferred and brought into operation. Currently, the process of bringing prisoners from the surrounding districts continues. He said, 'In the next few days, the necessary preparations for prisoner management at full capacity have been completed.'
Even though the construction of the physical structure of the prison has been completed, the process of bringing in the prisoners from other districts is continuing gradually, including customs operations, staff management. Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, director general of the prison management department, informed that the prisoners coming from the central prison (Jagannathdeval), Nakkhu prison Lalitpur, Dillibazar prison Kathmandu are being transferred to the prison here.
According to him, the prisons in the valley, along with the nearby Rasuwa, Dhading, Gorkha, will be operated at full capacity by bringing in more prisoners than the capacity.
The government plans to gradually build the necessary structures to establish the central prison as a modern and industrial prison. Accordingly, homework is being done to advance the construction of the third phase of physical structure. Director General Bhattarai said, 'As there are currently more than 28,000 in prisons with a capacity of 13,000 prisoners across the country, the government is committed to complete the central prison of Nuwakot as soon as possible.'
It is mentioned that the work of this prison will be completed in five stages according to the master plan of this prison, which was built in accordance with the decision of the cabinet meeting held on 20 Chait 20, 2070 to transfer it to Khampa camp located in Vidur municipality-6. In the third phase, the construction of physical structures to hold 1,370 prisoners in the 10 blocks required for the first unit, the administrative building, the security unit of the Nepal Police and the Armed Police have been constructed.
According to the master plan for the construction of the central prison, the department has gathered for the construction of the third phase of the physical structure. However, Director General Bhattarai informed that due to lack of assurance of financial resources in the earlier contract process, initiatives are being taken for that. According to the master plan, one 'jail' has been built in each block of the prison to keep those involved in heinous crimes. However, other structures in line with the government's goal of establishing it as an industrial prison are yet to be built.
'According to the government's goal of establishing it as an industrial, modern and model prison, we are waiting for the budget management to carry out further work to make Nuwakot prison full of facilities,' he said, 'playground, yoga center, hospital, school and campus, library, skill promotion center. , facilities including Kiriyaputri room will now be included in the new structure.'
The construction and management of the necessary physical structures for prisons will be conducted through the central government, and the participation of the state government in the program including skill promotion has been started. Similarly, the local government's partnership is being sought in the operation and management of sewage treatment and biogas plant.
According to this, Vidur municipality has started to move forward with the plan to build a biogas plant by processing the sewage which is in the last and fifth stage, informed the Mayor Rajan Shrestha . According to him, the work is going to be carried forward with the investment of the federal water supply and sewage management project.
