Monitoring of tiger and tiger food species has been started through camera trapping method in Brahmadev Corridor connected to Chure area and nearby areas. Counting has been started on Friday by installing a pair of automatic cameras in the Chela subdivision forest area of Vedkot Municipality, which is located in the corridor.
For tiger monitoring, automatic cameras will be installed in forest areas of Kanchanpur and Dadeldhura from Mahakali river bank to Lalzhadi Mohona protected area. Zoological Society of London (ZSL) program officer Santosh Paudel said that the presence of other wildlife in the main corridors of tigers and elephants will also be identified through monitoring.
Now counting and monitoring is being done with the financial and technical support of ZSL and National Nature Conservation Fund. The Brahmadev Corridor was included in the 2018 and 2022 National Tiger Census. In the 2022 national census, an adult tiger was spotted in Parashuram area of Dadeldhura.
'Due to climate change, wild animals and plants, including tigers, are moving in search of proper climate,' said Shailendra Yadav, deputy professor of Forestry Research Center, 'for that, this corridor is important, because it is connected north-south to Chure.' The corridor is considered important as it connects the Shuklaphanta National Park with the Chure region and across the Mahakali with the Nandhore Protected Area of India. Pramod Bhattarai, secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forestry and Environment of the Sudurpaschim Province, said that this corridor is connected north-south, so it is also important for wildlife migrating to the northern region due to the effects of climate change.
