Congress MP Bir Bahadur Balayer has said that there should be a legal arrangement to prevent the land given to squatters by the government from being sold for two generations. At Wednesday's meeting of the Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee, MP Balayer said that the government should be serious about solving the problem of squatters.
In the meeting of the committee which was held to discuss about unorganized settlements on the land, MP Balayer said that all the squatters in Terai-Madhes, hills and mountains should be given land . He proposed, 'There should be a legal provision that land given to landless squatters cannot be sold for two generations.'
Balayer said that since it was found that after the land was given, it was sold and again listed as a squatter's house, such a legal arrangement should be made and strictly followed.
Similarly, Balayer said that 90 percent of the Dalit population is landless not only in the Terai but also in the hills. He said that land should be arranged for them too.
The Land Commission has informed that preparations are being made to distribute 1 lakh Lalpurja within the next 1 year. The Ministry of Lands said that the problem has not been resolved even after forming the Land Commission several times.
