Tamu Lhosar festival is being celebrated today

Gurung community is celebrating 'Tamu Lhosar' today to welcome the new year. Since 'Lho' means year and 'Saar' means change, the day on which the year changes is called 'Tamu Lhosar'.

Tamu Lhosar is celebrated grandly by the Gurung community as a new year. The 'Tamu Lhosar' festival is related to the rays of the sun.

There is a rumor that this festival is celebrated on the 15th of December because the heat of the sun comes first in Lamjung, Gorkha, Tanahun, Syangja, Manang, Kaski, Parbat, etc., where there are many Gurungs.

After this, it is believed that this festival is celebrated in the months of January and February because the heat of the sun comes to the areas inhabited by the Tamang and Sherpa tribes respectively.

It is said that the night of the 15th of January is the longest and the nights after that are getting shorter. On the occasion of Tamu Lhosar, the government has given a public holiday today. On this occasion, the Gurung community has organized a special program in Tundikhel.
