A Jeju Air plane carrying 175 passengers from Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, crashed on Sunday morning while landing at Muan Airport in South Korea, killing 179 people including four crew members.

Of the six crew members, two cabin crew in the last seat of the ship were rescued alive. The ship skidded on the runway and was completely destroyed by fire.

The 33-year-old male "flight attendant" among the two rescued alive is communicating with the doctor, while the health condition of the 25-year-old air hostess who suffered head and leg injuries is stable, according to the Korean news agency Yonhap.

The accident happened at 9 am local time. South Korea's time is 3 hours 15 minutes ahead of Nepal. According to the Ministry of Transport there, two Thai nationals and 173 Koreans were among the passengers on the plane that crashed. There are 85 women and 84 men among the deaths.

The gender of the remaining 10 dead has not been identified. On the plane were three-year-old children to 78-year-olds. Among those who lost their lives, 5 people were under 10 years of age.

The crash site is about 289 km southwest of Seoul, the capital of South Korea. Jeju Air flight number-2216 Boeing aircraft took off for Korea at 2:30 pm Bangkok time. The flight time of this route is about 4 and a half hours. According to Muan International Airport, the plane was scheduled to land at 8:54 a.m. Korea time.

According to the Ministry of Transport of Korea, the main reason for the accident is that the landing gear of the plane did not open during landing. The American news organization "CNN" cited the fire fighters and flight analysts operating at the airport and mentioned that the accident was due to "landing gear" failure. While the plane was landing, the air traffic control in the airport's "control tower" informed the pilot that there was a bird on the "approach" route.

One minute after their warning, the crew from the plane called the air traffic controller for help and called "Mayday-Mayday Call" (the term for a plane in distress) through the radio set from the cockpit, according to CNN. The aircraft was only 2.2 km from the end of the runway when the 'mayday call' was made.

In the public 'video footage' after the accident, the ship adopted a 'belly-land' (emergency method of landing by slipping on the runway from the bottom when the wheels are not open) on the runway. But it is estimated that the crew could not reduce the speed of the ship during the "belly-land" and the brakes, including the "flap" connected to the wings, which are used to stop the speed of the ship as soon as it touches the ground, were not operational.

According to Yonhap news agency, the plane skidded off the runway and crashed into a concrete structure on the border of the airport and an Instrument Landing System (ILS) structure.

The agencies noted that the cause of the accident was not revealed until late Sunday evening. According to the officials, the investigation of the flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR) of the ship will reveal whether there was a malfunction in the ship or the accident due to other reasons.

All the employees including the CEO of the company operating the aircraft bowed their heads in a press conference on Sunday and expressed their commitment to fully assist in the investigation of the incident. They also said that they would help the bereaved family members. In the same way, the American Boeing Company, the ship manufacturer, expressed its grief over the incident and said that it would help in the investigation.

South Korea's largest 'low-cost' (budget) airline Jeju Air has a good record in air safety compliance. Similarly, the news agency claimed that the safety record of Boeing 737-800 aircraft is also good. The crashed plane is 15 years old.

Seven years ago, Jeju Air purchased this plane from Ireland's Ryan Air Company. According to news agency AP, the crash is one of the deadliest in Korean aviation history. 27 years ago in 1997, a Korean Airlines plane crashed in Guam, killing 228 passengers.

A similar terrible air crash happened in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2007. 187 people on board and 12 civilians on the ground died when Chipley's Airbus A-320 overshot the runway and crashed into a building.
