Lately, there has been a rift between Maoist Center Deputy General Secretary Janardhan Sharma and Nepal Communist Party General Secretary Netra Vikram Chand. They have also started appearing together on the same stage. While the distance between Deputy Secretary General Sharma and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is increasing, the leaders are also suspicious of Chand's closeness.
Sharma and Chand are fellow travelers of the armed conflict. They were in the same party till 2071. After Chand left Maoist in 2071 and started Nepal Communist Party, both separated. Lately, both the leaders have been emphasizing on unity and cooperation.
They celebrated the birth anniversary of Mao Zedong, the founder of the Chinese Communist Party, from the same platform on Thursday. Maoist Chairman Dahal wished Mao Day through a statement.
The central committee meeting of the Maoists is sitting since December 21. In the meeting, there are plans to discuss the party's conflict and upcoming programs. Earlier, in the standing committee meeting, Sharma raised questions about the transfer of leadership and the working style of the original leadership, and the distance between the two leaders has increased. While Sharma was Dahal's confidant since the armed conflict. Dahal got irritated after Sharma made a written statement against him in the meeting.
Sharma has been publicly criticizing the party leadership. On the occasion of Mao Day, Maoist Deputy General Secretary Sharma commented that the coalition for power in the past was unprincipled and the party had forgotten the class bias.
'Today, the rhythm of the communists is like a laughing stock. Are you going to stay in the power struggle or move forward with the problems of people's livelihood?'' He said, 'The communist movement has lost its credibility by joining classes, making unprincipled alliances and doing anything to win.' Indicating that it was taken negatively, Sharma said that different opinions should be respected. He mentioned that the Communist Party should adopt the spirit of Mao's saying "let hundreds of flowers bloom".
According to Sharma and Chand, there is continuous discussion between Maoist power unity. We fought together on the war front for ten years. We ate rice in the same plate at the gathering of Chunbang and Thabang,' he said, 'There is no illusion that we want to unite.'
According to CPN General Secretary Chand, there is now a situation where the Maoists are united and discussions are being held to unite in a new way. "Even though there are differences now, we are Maoists, Maoists should come together and debate," he said.
A Maoist leader said that it was not just a coincidence that Sharma was close to Chand while he was growing distant with Dahal. "When there is a hidden but deep struggle between Prachanda and Janardhan, the meeting gives a political message that the two leaders are close," he said.
