The Federation of Nepalese Journalists has decided to draw the attention of the relevant parties to make the media-related laws being prepared at the central, provincial and local levels friendly to press freedom.

General Secretary Ram Prasad Dahal informed that the first meeting held on Tuesday after the Central Committee elected from the 27th Congress of the Federation expressed its commitment to stand firmly for the freedom of press and expression, the rights of working journalists and the institutional development of the Nepali journalism sector, which is facing financial crisis.

He also informed that a media mission has been formed under the coordination of central member of the Federation Kamal Rimal to conduct an on-site study and submit a report within seven days regarding the death threats against journalist Gopal Dahal. Central member Shankar Kharel, senior journalist Harsh Subba, president of Federation Koshi Province Committee Bharat Bahadur Khadka and president of Federation Sunsari Branch Santosh Kafle are members of the media mission. General Secretary Dahal also said that thanks were given to the outgoing working committee of the federation, election committees of all three levels, concerned organizations, members of the federation, staff working in the central office of the federation, who contributed to the successful completion of the 27th convention of the federation.

In the history of the Federation, the 27th Congress has elected a female leader for the first time. Nirmala Sharma has been elected as the president on behalf of Nepal Press Union and Press Chautari Nepal joint group. History has also been established that the acting chairman of the working committee that will hold the 27th convention is also a woman by chance.
