Who is doing 'siege' against UML?

UML concluded that there is a siege and conspiracy against the government, party and leadership and instructed the subordinate committee to counter it. The National Workshop of the Central Secretariat, Organization Department as well as the meeting of the Economic, Parliamentary, Election, Publicity, Youth and other departments have concluded that there is a conspiracy against the party and leadership.

In the national workshop held last week, UML President and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli instructed to counter the party and leadership by saying that there is siege, conspiracy and bad propaganda. He said that the UML should move forward after breaking the conspiracy by targeting the opposition parties towards the Maoist center and the National Independent Party. When the government is not able to do the expected work, the Maoists are criticizing Prime Minister Oli through 'Khabardari Sabha' and social media.

The Maoists have been accusing the government of protecting the corrupt, weakening good governance, and protecting them in cooperation fraud. The Maoist leaders have been on a mission to criticize Prime Minister Oli. On the day the new government completed 100 days, the Maoists made a video and claimed that the Oli government had failed, while Oli refuted it and claimed that the government had achieved 70 percent of its goals.

RSVP has been making serious allegations of corruption against Prime Minister Oli after the arrest of Chairman Ravi Lamichhane on charges of co-operative fraud. Leaders and workers of RSWP have launched a campaign against Oli. After medical practitioner Durga Prasain made and publicized fake documents about Oli's investment in Cambodia's telecom, UML held a vigil at Darbarmarg on November 7 to refute it. Oli addressed the meeting.

UML is holding a central secretariat meeting on December 10 and a central committee meeting in the third week of December. Rajendra Gautam, Head of UML Propaganda Department, said that the meeting will plan to counter the siege against the government and party leadership.

'There is a siege against the government and UML. Targeted misinformation and conspiracies are being made against the party president,'' he said, 'Factless, misleading propaganda and unlimited gossip is happening from the opposition Maoist and RSVP leaders. UML strongly opposes such activities.'

Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal mentioned that the government started giving vindictive and impulsive expressions less than 100 days ago. There is no balance in the speech of the leader of the main opposition. "The expression shows revenge rather than politics," he said, adding that "leaders of all parties should proceed based on democratic values." Misinformation and criticism done in an apolitical manner will bring nothing but chaos to the country.

The UML Central Organization Department held a two-day national workshop for presidents and secretaries of provincial, district and fraternal organizations in Kathmandu in the last week of November. The workshop passed a resolution to 'establish the party policy, leadership and political direction among the people by countering the conspiracies and misinformation against the party and leadership'. Similarly, a joint meeting of central department heads and secretaries was held at the party headquarters in Lalitpur on December 2. It also concluded that there was a 'planned siege' on the party. General Secretary Shankar Pokharel said that important discussions were held in the meeting regarding resolutely confronting the siege and attacks against the party and making the work of the party and the government more effective.

The meeting held on November 25 to review the local by-elections concluded that social media was misused to defame the party and the leadership. In the meeting, Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali informed that it was decided to call the party line to counter the activities against the government, party and leadership. Misleading propaganda does not benefit anyone. Our party line should make a political counter against this,' he said.

The senior vice president of the main opposition party Maoist, Narayankaji Shrestha, commented that the UML, which led the coalition government, saw the criticism from the opposition as a conspiracy. He also said that he will strongly warn against wrongdoings of the government. Shrestha says that since the Oli government blocked the anti-corruption work and social justice and good governance started by the Maoist-led government, it will continue its anti-corruption campaign. He challenged the UML to show action rather than making 'baseless' accusations against the opposition parties.
