The UK-based Durham University's Center for International Boundary Research Unit (IBRU) has awarded 'Raymond Milefsky Award-2024' to Nepal's border expert Buddhinarayan Shrestha.
IBRU honored Shrestha for explaining and exposing the border in the mountainous, disputed territory of South Asia.
In 1992, Shrestha promoted himself as the 'Border Man of Nepal' after working as the Director General of the Surveyors Department of Nepal. After educating himself on the legal issues of border management and border recovery, Shrestha focused on border studies. He has written 14 books covering the intricacies of historical treaties and maps and contemporary dispute resolution.
The Milefsky Prize is awarded each year to an individual or organization that promotes border-building or cross-border cooperation . The Milefsky Award is made possible by a bequest from the estate of Raymond Milefsky, a longtime border specialist at the US State Department who was an instructor in eyebrow training workshops. The prize money is 745 sterling pounds.
