A conference on communication and media has started today in Kathmandu with the aim of intellectually discussing the possibilities and challenges faced by the mass media sector with the prevalence of social media and the rapid development and use of technology.

Organized by Tribhuvan University Central Department of Journalism and Center for Media Research Nepal, the two-day conference starting from today will discuss working papers and research papers on more than a dozen media-related topics including widespread misinformation, use of social media, media bias and communication literacy.  Presenting the main theme in the opening session of the

conference, Professor P Kharel said that no matter how much technology has made journalists and the media more comfortable, news transmission based on the collection of clean facts of the event sequence is still a challenge. "The idea that the truth of the received information should be tested and re-examined came from Buddha's tent, but even now there is a considerable amount of unre-examined news in the media," he said.  Apart from this, he said that the lack of awareness that should be adopted in the transmission of news of natural disasters or accidents is evident. He mentioned that traditional mass media have to update themselves due to digital technology.

Central University Journalism Department Head Kundan Aryal mentioned that readers and sources are very active compared to the past and the need for responsibly edited communication materials is still  He thought that it was starting to be felt in a sudden way. He also said that the purpose of the conference is to bring readers, viewers and sources closer to each other, academic activities related to communication including regular reading. Communication experts from Nepal and South Asian countries, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are participating in the conference.
