Kathmandu Metropolitan City has imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Bhatbhateni Super Market located in Tripureshwar. Bhatbhateni Super Market was fined by the Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry of the Metropolitan Municipality after it was found that the contaminated material was being sold.
Inspection officer of the department Dr. According to Awadhesh Jha, a complaint was received in the call center of Kathmandu metropolis that 'sold, rotten and insect-infested food' was sold. Based on the complaint, during the monitoring by the department, 44 packets of coconuts were found to contain harmful substances. Then on Friday, those coconuts were destroyed and Bhatbhateni was fined Rs 2 lakh.
The Metropolitan Municipality has issued a statement and said, 'The penalty amount should be deposited in the revenue account of the Metropolitan Municipality and henceforth, when selling, arrangements should be made to ensure that the goods are of high quality and food grade under the prevailing laws of Nepal.'
