Chief of Army Staff Ashokraj Sigdel has returned home on Sunday after completing an official visit to the neighboring country of India. Chief of Army Staff Rathi Pradipjung KC welcomed Chief of Army Staff Sigdel, who returned from a tour of neighboring countries at the invitation of Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi at Tribhuvan International Airport.

During his visit to India, General Sigdel was awarded the Honorary Maharathi status of the Indian Army by the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, at a beautification ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

During his visit to India, Chief of Army Staff Sigdel had separate courtesy meetings with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Defense Chief General Anil Chauhan, Field Army Chief Dwivedi, Defense Secretary and Foreign Secretary . Maharathi Sigdel participated as the Chief Guest in the last Dalel Kawaz of officer cadets trained at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, India. Praveen Pandey, an officer cadet of the Nepali Army trained at the academy, was awarded as the best foreign learner among 35 foreign officer cadets.

During his stay in India, Maharathi Sigdel also visited various strategic military formations including the South Command Force Center of the Indian Army . 

The Nepali Army believes that the visit of high-level military leadership and the tradition of decorating the Commander-in-Chief of the two countries with the title of Honorary Maharathi will contribute significantly to smoothing the relationship between the Nepali Army and the Indian Army.
