Meeting between Foreign Minister Deuba and Luxembourg Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba and Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Xavier Bettel had a meeting in Luxembourg on Tuesday. Bettel was also the Prime Minister of Luxembourg from 2013 to 2023.

During the meeting in his office in Luxembourg City, various aspects of Nepal-Luxembourg relations as well as mutual interests, common interests and cooperation were discussed. On that occasion, they talked about Nepal's development priorities and economic cooperation between Nepal and Luxembourg. They exchanged ideas. Also, during the talks, there was a discussion about the increase in global temperature and the effects of climate change due to it.

Minister Deuba also informed during the meeting that since Nepal is under the grip of the effects of climate change and because of this, Nepal has to suffer unimaginable losses, the international community has been appealed for assistance. They had a detailed discussion on various issues of bilateral interest. On that occasion, Minister Deuba also requested Minister Bettel to prioritize Luxembourg in Nepal's development aid. 

Minister Deuba also requested Minister Bettel to provide necessary support to Nepal in economic and technical fields as Nepal is going to graduate from LDC in 2026. 

Minister Deuba said that since Nepal is about to be upgraded from a least developed country to a middle-level country, Nepal is expecting the support of the donor countries and organizations of Nepal including the European Union, and the support of Luxembourg is also expected.  During the

meeting, Minister Deuba also informed that Nepal has reached the final stage of ending the peace process internally. In addition, he said that Nepal is a member of the United Nations Security Council and the Human Rights Commission. She asked Luxembourg to help her as she was going to run for membership. 

Diplomatic relations were established between Nepal and Luxembourg in 1975.
