Central Member of Nepali Congress and Head of Education Department Nainsingh Mahar has said that the Congress is of the opinion that open competition (meritory) should be applied when appointing officials in universities and institutions.
Leader Mahar emphasized that meritocracy should be implemented in all universities and institutes in the 'Academic Discussion' program organized by Pragya Group in Kathmandu today. He said, 'Personally, I have been raising my voice for a decade and a half that officials should be appointed in universities and institutes on the basis of meritocracy . The Nepali Congress has been firmly standing in favor of increasing the autonomy and dignity of the university. Mahar said that for the upgradation of education, the Congress has conducted the 'Education Policy Debate Campaign' across the country.
Leader Mahar says that higher education can be made globally competitive and of high quality if the appointment of officials in all universities and institutions of Nepal is based on competition, not only Tribhuvan University.
Pointing to the delay in the process of appointing officials in Tribhuvan University, he said, 'Government and university officials should be serious in fulfilling their goals, not just using meritoriousness as an elephant's tusk in the appointment of university officials.' Similarly, Mahar drew the attention of the government to take action against those involved in the embezzlement of 2400 ropani land of the University.
