US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu has returned home today after completing a two-day visit to Nepal. During the visit, he had a courtesy meeting with Congress Chairman and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel and discussed various issues of bilateral mutual interest.

Assistant Foreign Minister Lu also participated in the formal launch of the Gender Equality and Equality Action Plan grant with the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development and an interaction with the US Embassy Youth Council.  

Assistant Foreign Minister Lu expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the US-aided Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project while discussing various aspects of Nepal-US relations in an interaction with the media today. He said that the construction of this project will greatly contribute to the progress of Nepal's energy and road infrastructure. In addition, he also expressed interest in Nepal's transitional justice process, noting that American support will continue in Nepal's development.

Assistant Foreign Minister Lu also visited Bhaktapur region, which is a rich cultural heritage of Nepal. It is believed that his visit will strengthen the US-Nepal partnership and lead to continued cooperation and further progress in key areas including sustainable development, gender equality and community empowerment.
