Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba termed the criticism about the BRI agreement as 'childish comments'.
Foreign Minister Rana made this comment while leaving for The Hague, Netherlands to participate in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) hearing on climate change.
During Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's four-day visit to China from November 17 to 20, Nepal and China agreed on the 'BRI Cooperation Framework'. Stating that there is no decision about taking or giving loans in the said agreement, Minister Rana said that the comments are being made without understanding the agreement. She said that it is childish to say that the loan agreement is signed because the loan taking/giving behavior is done with the consent and request of the receiving party.
Rana also clarified that Nepal has not signed any agreement with China except BRI. He said that Nepal is only interested in the 'development initiatives' put forward by China.
Stating that the BRI agreement itself is a development aid, Rana said that Nepal has only participated in China's 'Global Development Initiatives'.
