Election Commission's call to vote confidently
By-elections are being held on Sunday for local level posts that have become vacant due to the death or resignation of public representatives. By-elections have been held for 41 posts, including 1 municipal head, 1 deputy head, 2 rural village president, 4 vice president and 33 ward presidents.
According to the Election Commission, there are 376 candidates from 20 political parties and independents in the by-election. There are 226 thousand 799 voters in the local level where by-elections are held.
293 polling stations have been built in 162 polling stations. The time for voting is from 7 am to 5 pm on Sunday. To cast your vote, you will have to go to the polling station with your voter ID card. The commission said that voting can be done on the basis of citizenship, national identity card, driver's license, passport or identity card with a permanent account number, which can be used without voter ID card.
The Commission has said that all the preparations for the by-elections have been completed. By issuing a press release on the eve of the polling, the Commission has called upon the voters of the by-election area to attend the polling station bearing their name and vote confidently. This time, there is no ban on the operation of vehicles on the day of voting.
According to Nita Pokharel Aryal, spokesperson of the commission, the commission has directed the relevant Chief District Officer through the Ministry of Home Affairs to arrange the transport operation so that the election security is not affected except for certain areas of the polling place. Spokesperson Aryal said that they were also asked to arrange public holidays only in local levels and wards where voting will take place.
The commission said that after the voting is over, the counting process will be completed. The by-elections, which are being held at the end of the half term of the local level, are viewed by the parties as a 'mid-term test'.
Maoist's Jagat Gharti has been elected unopposed as the ward president of Pritha Uttarganga-2 in Rukum East under the by-election. Tika Kumari Choudhary (Bhul) of Congress has won the Jesus chief of Kailali and Tekraj Bhattarai of Congress has also won unopposed in the Jesus chief of Okhaldhunga.
