The construction work of Lamjung Palace in Village Sahar of Benisahar Municipality-3 has been stopped. After the palace built in the sixteenth century fell into disrepair, the archeology department started its reconstruction two and a half years ago, but the construction work has been stopped since last July.
The residents of Lamjung are worried because the reconstruction of the Lamjung Palace, which dates back to the Baise/Choubise kingdom, has not been able to speed up. According to Rajendra Bohora, chairman of Village Sahar Kalika Temple Conservation and Management Committee, the work could not be completed even though there was a verbal agreement with the staff of the Department of Archaeology. It took the third year but it did not work.
'After the construction work was not completed, we reached Kathmandu after last December and met the Archeology Department and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's personal secretary and asked for the management of the necessary budget, but the work has not yet started,' he said. People's faith has decreased, locals are unhappy when work is delayed.'
Local Suresh Shrestha said that the government is not sending enough budget for the reconstruction of the religious and historical places Lamjung Darbar and Kalika Temple.
Chairman of Ward No. 3, Chitra Bahadur Danai, said that the government is not providing the necessary budget, so the construction work is being delayed and the work has not started yet. 'We are requesting the relevant authorities to start the construction of the palace. There is a complaint that the previous contractor did not do quality work. "Despite complaining about this matter, the department has not paid attention," he said. According to the Department of Archaeology, about 70 percent of the physical progress has been made in the reconstruction of the palace. According to Govind Adhikari, engineer of the
department, in the previous year, reconstruction was started with a budget of Rs. In the first year, Bhaktapur's construction company NPS and in the second year, Bhaktapur's RGS-Vishnu JV was entrusted with the reconstruction of the palace. The engineer officer said that the budget for the current year is only Rs 55 lakh. He said that the construction work is delayed due to lack of budget and the construction will not be completed even with this year's budget.
'Due to the process of budget clearance, installment bidding etc., the construction work has not been able to speed up till now this year. It has taken some time because the bidding process has gone on and the name of the company that has been officially bid is yet to be announced. Now we will make an agreement with the contractor who has bid in some time and bring the contractor to see it and start the work after about a month, we believe that the work will be completed within about three months of the current budget,' said the engineer officer.
The palace is being reconstructed in the old style and form. Darbar Buingal will be three-storied and Kalika Mandir will be made of Pagoda (Chane style). Bricks, wood, surki and other construction materials needed to build the palace have been brought from Bhaktapur and used.
Locals have demanded that the federation, state government and local level provide budget for the reconstruction and management of Darbar and complete the construction as soon as possible. According to the management committee, the palace occupies an area of 16 ropani.
