Kathmandu District Court has issued arrest warrants against 24 people, including Gitendrababu (GB) Rai, president of Gorkha Media Network, to investigate allegations of misappropriation of savings of Swarnalakshmi Multi-Purpose Cooperative, which has its head office in Kalimati, Kathmandu.

At the request of the District Police Complex, Kathmandu, the court has issued an arrest warrant for investigating GB Rai. Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14, Kalimati with main office New Road, Maharajganj, Swayambhu and  The cooperative collected 2 billion 650 million 95 million 59 thousand 58 rupees from 6669 people who opened a branch in Jorpati. Out of which, 645 people filed a complaint with the police saying that their 1 billion 11 million savings were embezzled in collusion with the owners and employees of the cooperative.

Based on the complaint filed by the victim to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the police and the report of the Special Parliamentary Investigation Committee, the police said that 24 of the accused have been granted permission to be arrested by the court for investigation.

Arrest warrants were issued for Swarnalakshmi Cooperative Vice President Devendra Babu Rai, Treasurer Kumar Ramtel, Secretary Iran Lama, Joint Secretary Kavita Lama, Members Hemant Adhikari and Ravina Rimal, Former Loan Subcommittee Member Suraj Shrestha, Former Treasurer Meera Bamjan, Former Joint Secretary Maya Rai and Former Manager Naveen Achami. are

Similarly, former directors Deepak Lama, Savina Alemgar, Bhakta Bahadur Bholan, Yamkumar Nalbo, Raju Baral, Punamkumar Chalise, Pradeep Lama, Savita Lama, Ganeshraj Shrestha, Sunita Neva, Shantikumari Subedi, Roman Kafle, Kamal Lama, also against former loan sub-committee member Raju Baral. An arrest warrant has been issued.

The Parliamentary Investigation Special Committee formed under the leadership of UML MP Surya Bahadur Thapa to study the misappropriation of cooperative savings also asked the police to investigate the misappropriation of Swarnalakshmi's savings and bring the culprits to justice.

Based on the facts and evidence revealed by the investigation committee's report and the investigation by the police, the then vice president of Gorkha Media Network and former DIG of Nepal Police Chabilalal Joshi and former deputy prime minister and home minister Ravi Lamichhane, who was also the then managing director of Gorkha Media, have been arrested. The police are investigating the accused including Lamichhane and Joshi for crimes related to cooperative fraud, organized crime and money laundering. Both are currently in the custody of District Police Office Kaski during the investigation. Lamichhane and Joshi are under investigation for embezzling the savings of Suryadarshan of Kaski (Pokhara), Supreme of Rupandehi (Butwal), Sahara of Chitwan (Bharatpur) and Parsa (Birgunj) along with Swarnalakshmi of Kathmandu, by bringing the savings to the Gorkha media network.

Now the Kaski police are taking a statement from Lamichhane in Suryadarshan cooperative fraud. In the same case, an officer said that Joshi has already given a statement in the Supreme case of Suryadarshan and Butwal, and the police are ready to take Lamichhane to Butwal to make a statement. While the Kaski and Rupandehi police are investigating both of them, the district court in Kathmandu has also allowed the police to investigate Swarnalakshmi's savings fraud.

'It seems that 5 thousand 669 people have saved 2 billion 650 million 95 lakh 52 thousand 58 rupees in Swarnalakshmi Cooperative,' said a police officer, 'of which, in collusion with the employees and directors, they have illegally embezzled money from the cooperative and have returned their money. Arrest warrants have been taken against 24 of the accused during the investigation of the complaint that they did not receive.
