Nepal Samjawadi Party Chairman and former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has accused the government of openly protecting the corrupt. He says that people who say they do not commit corruption commit massive corruption and there is a tendency to arrest another person under the pretext of corruption.

Addressing the legislative session of the party which started on Monday in Pokhara, President Bhattarai said that institutions should be financially strong to control corruption.

In the behavior of ``not doing corruption by mouth,'' there is a tendency to openly protect the corrupt. How can good governance be maintained like this?', Bhattarai said questioningly.

He alleged that all major parties are not untouched in the scandal including Sahakari, Omni, Bhutanese refugees, Sun, Widebadhi. He said that it is necessary to form a powerful organization for investigating corruption.

He complained that even though he has become the Prime Minister of the country, no scandal has been uncovered and he is being sidelined when trying to do good.  'I am not involved in any scandal,' he said, 'First of all, the investigation should start from me. But the assets of all political leaders should be investigated. You should not be freed from corruption because you are in political leadership.' He said that the legislative session will prepare a new document with amendments and corrections to the party's constitution. 400 delegates are participating in the convention.
