A courtesy meeting was held between the Speaker of the National Assembly, Narayan Prasad Dahal, and the Speaker of the Indian Parliament, Lok Sabha, Om Birla. A bilateral meeting was held between President Dahal and Lok Sabha Speaker Birla who were in Geneva to participate in the 149th General Assembly of the Inter-Legislative Association.

On that occasion, relations between the two countries, parliamentary cooperation, experience sharing and mutual interests were discussed. In the meeting, National Assembly Speaker Dahal mentioned that there is a deep relationship between Nepal and India not only at the diplomatic-political level but also at the people's level and said that the emotional relationship between the people has strengthened the relationship between the two countries.

Stating that the Federal Parliament has been forming the Nepal-India Parliamentary Friendship Group since the past, President Dahal said that meetings and visits should be emphasized for mutual cooperation, practice and exchange of experience between the Parliaments of the two countries. Speaker Dahal said that sharing each other's parliamentary practice and experience will help to strengthen democratic values ​​and further strengthen relations.

On the occasion, Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Birla said that India and Nepal are not only neighbors but also guardians of historical relations and culture. Stating that the social and cultural relations of the two countries have been close since ancient times, he said that there was a strong relationship between the people of the two countries even before the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Discussing the various dimensions and aspects of the Indian Parliament, Speaker Birla said that since the parliamentary procedures and practices of both countries are the same, the parliamentary experience is also similar. He emphasized that parliamentary visits and cooperation between the two countries should be increased, saying that they can meet and exchange visits whenever necessary as they are geographically close. The meeting was attended by MPs and representatives from the delegations of both countries.
