After the resignation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, President Ramchandra Paudel has called for the formation of a majority government.
According to Article 76 (2) of the Constitution, President Paudel called for the formation of a majority government by giving time until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday 30th June 2081.
On Friday, after Prime Minister Dahal's motion seeking a vote of confidence was rejected by the House of Representatives, the Parliament Secretariat informed the President's Office that Dahal could not receive a vote of confidence. Soon after, President Paudel discussed the formation of a new government with the legal experts.
President Paudel, in consultation with constitutional scholars, has called for the formation of a new government according to Article 76 (2) of the Constitution amid the debate on which of the following clauses of Article 76 (2) or (3) of the Constitution.
Article 76 (2) of the Constitution states that the President must appoint a member of the House of Representatives who can obtain a majority with the support of two or more parties represented in the House of Representatives as the Prime Minister.
