The Foreign Employment Department has advanced the process from Tuesday to send 800 more Nepali care givers to Israel, which has been fighting with the Palestinian rebel group for 263 days. According to the labor agreement between Nepal and Israel, the process of selecting and sending care givers through the government mechanism has been carried forward. It consists of 60 percent women and 40 percent men.
The selected Nepalese workers must work in Israel's long-term care center for the care of people with severe disabilities under the age of 65, the department said. The department has published a notice on Tuesday to apply within 21 days for the selection of 800 people. Israel began hiring care givers as auxiliary workers in long-term care centers in August 2022. Giriraj Gyawali, director of the department's Israel-Japan branch, said that 1,300 people have gone so far. 46 people are in the process of flying. "So far, as many people have gone as assistant workers, no one has had a problem," he said.
Despite the war between Israel and Hamas militants, workers in Israel are safe. Therefore, Danduraj Ghimire, director general of the department, said that workers were sent based on the suggestion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The war began on October 7 after the Hamas militant group attacked various parts of Israel connected to the Gaza Strip. In the attack, 1200 people were killed, including 10 Nepalese students who went to work in agriculture under the Learn and Earn program. 120 people, including Bipin Joshi from Kanchanpur, are still being held by Hamas fighters.
At least 34,000 people have died in the Gaza Strip in Israel's attack. Prabha Ghimire, who works in Jerusalem, Israel, said that the care giver is not affected by the ongoing war between Israel and Palestinian militants. Manju Thapalia of Bhaktapur, who works at the long-term care center in Israel, said that they are working confidently. She went to Israel as an assistant worker in the first lot through a government mechanism. "The conditions and conditions under which we came are being followed," she said.
Ghimire, director general of the department, said that the process has been advanced by sending assistant workers within two months. There is a huge shortage of support workers in Israel. "We have to complete the selection process within two months," he said, "for that we have advanced the process." Ghimire said that a list of 1500 people will be made based on merit for 800 workers. Out of 800 candidates, 500 are the main candidates. 300 more will remain as alternate candidates.
According to the agreement between Israel and Nepal, conditions are set for auxiliary workers. Not everyone can apply. Completed 25 years and not more than 45 years, should weigh at least 45 kg, have passed at least 10th standard and completed at least 15 months of study in ANM or CMA related subjects or have obtained 10+2 or equivalent educational qualification from a training provider organization recognized by the Government of Nepal There are provisions including the need to undergo a three-month training on care giving. The monthly salary of those selected is 5884 Israeli currency (about two lakh rupees). You have to bear the cost of food and accommodation yourself.
