National Independent Party MP Sobita Gautam has said that countries affected by climate change are not getting justice.
Participating in the two-day 'Feminist Forum' organized by the United Nations Asia Pacific Economic and Social Commission (UNEscape) at the UN Regional Office (UN Conference Center) in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, Member of Parliament Gautam raised the issue of access to financial aid and the effects of climate change on Nepali women. ;
MP Gautam was of the opinion that the climate has changed due to the activities of developed countries, but countries like Nepal have to bear the consequences. Stating that a ``Loss and Damage Fund'' should be established, MP Gautam said that countries like Nepal should be given unconditional grants instead of loans to combat the effects of climate change. "Right now the countries affected by the climate are not being judged . They should have unconditionally accessible grants, not conditional loans. There should be no criteria with any conditions,' said MP Gautam.
MP Gautam also drew the attention of the United Nations agencies to the fact that research on the effects of climate change has not reached the citizens of the affected areas. "The study has been done by scholars and the international community." However, the people of the affected area do not know about it . It is more important for them. It should be delivered to the lower level citizens . After reaching the citizen level, the policy makers also listen," she said.
MP Gautam said that countries like Nepal had to suffer the impact of the activities done by the developed countries . "We are being affected by the results of industrialization hunger of developed countries," she said, "Developed countries should develop industrial revolution, technology, but we also have to take care of countries like us." Nepalis have to pay the price for the luxury they have never enjoyed. We do not have the same development as their country . Nepali people are struggling for the road. However, we are constantly under the threat of floods, avalanches, and melting mountains. In the
program, MP Gautam emphasized that the climate fund should be made women-friendly, such a fund should be made accessible to women, LGBTIQ community-friendly and disability-friendly.
