Nepal Police has arrested 1,817 people for gambling in different places of the country in eight months of the current financial year. According to the police head office, gambling players were arrested in different parts of the country from July to mid-February this year.
Among those arrested are 779 from Kathmandu Valley, 115 from Koshi Province, 113 from Bagmati Province, 299 from Gandaki Province, 94 from Lumbini Province, 114 from Karnali Province and 313 from Far West Province.
Central Police Spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General of Police Bhim Prasad Dhakal informed that the police recovered 20 million 63 lakh 45 thousand 417 from them during that period. According to the Criminal Code, 2074, there is a legal provision for imprisonment for up to three months or a fine of up to 30,000 for those who gamble or play for the first time under the section not to gamble or bet.
Likewise, there is a provision for imprisonment for up to one year and a fine of up to 50,000 for those who gamble or play for the second time, and for subsequent offenses, imprisonment for up to three months and a fine of up to 10,000.
