The identity of the deceased in the fire that broke out in Tanglaphant, Kirtipur Municipality-1, Kathmandu on Tuesday morning has been revealed. According to SP Pawan Bhattarai of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, the deceased has been identified as Suresh Chandra Shrestha, 70, who was a permanent resident of Kathmandu-26 and currently living in Greenwood Villa.

‘We have contacted the family, the old man’s wife is in a state of emotional distress, we have not been able to question her much,’ he told Kantipur. The police have sent the body to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj for a postmortem. The cause of the fire has not been revealed yet.

The police have also reviewed the CCTV footage from the area around the incident. In the process, when locals who saw the fire opened the car door, the officer assigned to the investigation said that he did not try to get out.

‘It appears that he was sitting in the driving seat when the fire broke out,’ the officer said. ‘It appears that another person went and opened the door as soon as he saw the fire.’

His car, registration number বাকচ 3038, was completely burnt in the fire. The police are investigating further.
