After detaining Ansari with force, he demanded an arrest warrant from the police. However, the police put the students in a van, saying students are not allowed to engage in politics.
Amit Khanal of the Nepal Gen-Z Movement Alliance said that the government has shown a tendency to misuse state power to suppress the voices of citizens, respond to questions with batons, and use violence against those who go to peacefully monitor events.
"This is a direct attack on democratic values and norms; police brutality is unacceptable under any circumstances," he said. "For a body deployed for the security of the people to itself engage in repression of citizens is a serious blow to the rule of law and human rights."
