Residents from Ganesh Nepali's home district have staged a protest demanding justice for him after he attempted self-immolation in front of the Department of Passports in Tripureshwar. People from Mugu held a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala on Thursday afternoon, raising various demands.
Ganesh Nepali, 25, originally from Soru Rural Municipality–1 in Mugu and currently residing in Bhaktapur, poured petrol on himself and set his body on fire. On Thursday afternoon, he attempted self-immolation in front of Gate No. 3 of the Department of Passports in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu Metropolitan City–11. He is currently undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital. According to doctors, his condition is critical.
According to Dr. Piyush Dahal, head of the Burn Unit at Bir Hospital, he is currently being treated in the emergency ward. Preparations are underway to move him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). A doctor involved in his treatment said that about 70 percent of his body has been burned.
According to SSP Dilip Ghimire, chief of Kathmandu Police Range, Nepali had parked his motorcycle in front of the department, and the police had put a wheel lock on his bike. Upset that a wheel lock had been placed on his bike, he took petrol from the motorcycle and set himself on fire. After he set himself on fire and was injured, the police immediately rescued him and took him to Bir Hospital.
