The central canteen (G&B Cafe) inside Singha Durbar has been found to be storing moth-eaten lentils, soggy almonds and cracked eggs. The canteen has been fined after a joint inspection by the Food Technology and Quality Control Department and the Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection Department found irregularities in the canteen.
Senior Food Research Officer Dr. Balkumari Sharma said that the canteen has been fined Rs 201,000 as per the Consumer Protection Act.
According to Sharma, the cleanliness in the canteen was normal and the frying oil was found to be in accordance with the standards. However, the canteen had stored 17 kg of moth-eaten chickpea lentils, 11 kg of soggy almonds and 14 cracked eggs.
Earlier, in April, the Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection Department had imposed a fine of Rs 205,000 after expired curd was found in the canteen of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority in Singha Durbar.
