A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the municipality and Nepal Police to install CCTV cameras in Chandragiri Municipality, Kathmandu.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the municipality and Nepal Police on Thursday to install CCTV cameras on the main road from Chandragiri Nagdhunga to Kalanki, which is considered the main gateway to the Kathmandu Valley, and on the road leading to the ward office. The CCTV cameras are being installed to further strengthen the security system within the municipality.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by the mayor of the municipality, Ghanshyam Giri, and the chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Additional Inspector General of Police Ishwor Karki. Mayor Giri said that since Nagdhunga, the largest and main checkpoint entering the Kathmandu Valley, falls in Chandragiri Municipality, they have collaborated with the police to make the peace and security of the area effective and technology-friendly. He expressed confidence that the installation of CCTV cameras will help control criminal activities and manage traffic.

Currently, about 400 CCTV cameras have been installed within Chandragiri Municipality. Municipality spokesperson Krishna Prasad Khadgi said that the number of cameras installed within the municipality has been increased to 1,500 and an agreement has been reached with the Nepal Police to install CCTV cameras with the aim of providing security within the city.
