The Saraswati Basic School, which was demolished during the evacuation of the squatter settlement on the banks of the Manohara River, has been operating from the community building in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-1.
After the demolition of the school building, the children in the squatter settlement were worried about their studies. However, at the initiative of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, the school was shifted to the community building in Lokanthali, ward number 1 of the municipality, and continued.
Although classes started yesterday, Monday, not all students have arrived, said Headmaster Indira Mahat. Headmaster Mahat said that 180 students have been admitted to the school this year, compared to 275 students last year. 
Madhyapur Thimi Municipality has continued classes from the community building for the time being so that the students' studies do not suffer, said Municipality Chief Surendra Shrestha. Since there is no settlement, the landless squatters have started looking for rooms in Madhyapur Thimi. Mayor Shrestha said that students who cannot reach Lokanthali will be accommodated in other community schools.
Land is being searched for to rehabilitate the school and there is a plan to build a tent and move it as soon as the land is acquired, he said.
For the time being, the municipality has made arrangements to provide the necessary materials including pens and paper to the students. The school has also stated that it has provided counseling to the students and has continued its studies.
